Don't Waste Your Money. The Sensor Stinks!

About Me Midrange Shopper
Comments about Spirit Halloween 7.5 Inch Strobing Skull Head Lawnstakes:
When I used the try me button in the store, they seemed to work well. However, when I set them up Halloween night, they never lit up or made any noise despite the influx of noise from people passing by them. When I clapped loudly while standing over them, they still didn't go off. The only way I could trigger the sensor was to bend down to ground level and clap right next to the skull heads or press the button. I took them back with my receipt to the Spirit Halloween store the next day but the manager would not allow me to exchange them for something else so Very disappointed in this product. The essentially stick in the ground and never light up or make any noise and are not visible at night.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I would not buy this product again.
Looks great when the skills are lit up. However, motion sensor doesn't work very well. Only lights up when i touch the sensor. I thought it would work when the sensor detected motion, not just when you touch the sensor.

I was really excited to put these around my front yard, and when I got home and installed them the skulls looked great when they lit up. However I was quickly disappointed when I realized that the only way to get them to light up was to make a really loud sound 2 inches away from the sensor or touch the control box. They look really cool and I wish there was a setting to keep them on the whole night without the sensor, but I'm not sure if they will even work on Halloween night with trick-or-treaters walking by. Sadly I will most likely be returning them.
Unhappy with product

This product is fair at best. Built in microphone isn't sensitive enough, sometimes you have to make a loud sound or tap on the box to get it to work. The skulls themselves do not stand up well to the weather. After only one season they are dry rotted. Barely touched one and put a hole in it.

I wish it had a better sensor
from Sacramento, CA
The sound effects are great, there's different ones which are all fun, the stakes hold up nicely in the wind, the lights look awesome...its an almost perfect prop...except...The sensor is terrible! You have to tap it, hit it, kick it to get it to trigger. I feel bad having to leave the box out where people will hit it with their feet as they walk up to my door through the haunt. One year I rigged it by using the "try me button" and hiding it under one of my step pads for another prop. It worked, but the button was broken by being stepped on.Please fix this in either 2 ways: 1.) an always on style switch like this: On | Off | Try Me. Or, 2.) Put in a plug for people to hook it up to a step pad.

About Me Budget Shopper
I love these! They are cool looking, the sounds are great, and lights work well. My only issue is that you have to hit the box for it to go off. I can't sauder my box cause I have no idea how. A step wont connect to the box either, so if that can be fix that would be great!
Needs an "Always On" Option

About Me High-end Shopper
As other reviewers have noted, the sound activation absolutely ruins this item. It's a shame, because it looks SO COOL when it is actually lit. I am going to try the solution noted in another review and re-route the wires so the lights will stay on all the time.I was very excited about this product after pressing the demo button on the box and seeing how good it looks, but when I set them up on Halloween I was extremely disappointed when they didn't light up a single time. A simple solution would be to build in an "always on" switch that will bypass the sound activation feature. Please fix this! These are the coolest lights I've seen when they're on. It would also be nice if a similar set existed that were plug-in and weatherproof. The box doesn't specify, but I suspect these would not hold up in the rain. I would not recommend to a friend as-is because I don't think it's reasonable to have to be an amateur electrician to get them to work the way they should right out of the box.
Weak motion/sound sensor
from South Berwick, Maine
Bought two sets. The skulls look great when lit. The sound is poor quality. As one reviewer said, the motion/sound sensor will not trip unless you actually tap the control unit. Not what I expected. So, I cut the wires to the control unit and re-soldered them to the battery leads to keep the skulls lit all the time. Have to pull a battery to shut them off, but they work as I had wanted.

they were better than expected.. i like that they have options on how to use them, leave lights on or have them activated by sounds. The sounds are great and they are bigger than i thought. really cool.a nice addition to my halloween collection!

The path skulls are great, the lighting and sound are great. Now for the cons: the motion detector is very low quality, you have to literally stomp your feet to trigger it. It does fire off with the lightest tough to the motion sensor though. Lastly, the light/sound length when triggered should be 2-3x longer. I'd recommend it higher if the motion sensor issue were resolved.
do a pretty good job they work well
