Once all the Christmas and New Year’s Eve fun comes to an end, winter can get kind of boring. But one of the best holidays to celebrate during the coldest stretch of the year is National Popcorn Day. There’s nothing better than bundling up with a blanket, firing up a movie, and eating a big ol’ bowl of popcorn. This year, we put together a list of our favorite winter horror movies. Not only does this movie take place in a chilly setting, but the story will have you shaking with fear.

30 Days of Night takes place in a small town in Alaska. The town is so far north that in the winter, it doesn’t see sunlight for 30 days. Another snowy setting and another terrifying vampire story. It’s no surprise, as the look of the blood on the white snow has a dramatic and startling visual effect. Let the Right One In is thrilling, chilling, and will definitely make you squirm.

Adapted from the Stephen King book, Misery is a horrifying story about a famous author who crashes his car and is rescued by a fan. But the author soon realizes that the fan is dangerous and wants to hold him captive! Trapped in the middle of nowhere and surrounded by snow-covered woods, the author needs to find a way to escape from the crazed fan before his time is up.
