Doesn't work, waste of money.

Comments about Spirit Mist Maker:
Followed the instructions...you have to use distilled water. It barely worked the first time when I tried it out. The second time nothing. I tried it one more time and still nothing. In the trash it went.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

It barely put out any mist so my bubbling cauldron wasn't so bubbly. I'll go back to dry ice.

I bought the first one and the lights work, but the mist didn't. Exchanged for anther one and the same result. Followed directions both times, tried different things and no mist.I have other diffusers that work on this principle, but I cannot get this one to work.

WHAT I LIKE: It works well enough, the mist is cool and it produces it very fast. it's fairly simple to set up and can be used in a variety of sizes of bowls and cups. The pricing is also pretty reasonable.WHAT I DON'T LIKE: First off, the lights. I think they switch colors too fast, and it kind of takes away the atmosphere. There should be an option to make it transition slower, or stay on one color. They're also fairly dim and too dim for the dark. Second, the water deflector doesn't look as cool as on the picture. It actually fogs up in a very unattractive way. Third, you have to be very specific with how much water you put in. A bit too much or too little and it won't work properly. Overall it's a nice little thing, but be aware that it isn't perfect.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Don't waste your money! Doesn't work as advertized!
I actually would give it no stars. It lights up but never produced any mist and, unfortunately, I didn't find that out until after the 30 day return period had gone by. Definitely not worth the price, no matter what the price is!
Works well, looks great, need to be careful with water spray
Used in a black ceramic chalice labeled POISON . Looked great when it works but not always easy to position the splash guard to allow the water jet to produce adequate fog without splashing all over my tabletop. So , I would advise to place this on a surface that cannot be damaged by water or cover surface with plastic wrap like I did or whatever works best for your display( I covered the plastic wrap with silk Autumn leaves).

Exactly what I needed.
By KY Haunter
from Lexington, KY
I run a yard haunt every year and needed something to give off some mild smoke to my witch's cauldron. This allowed me to get the effect I needed and use my larger fog machine for something else. It doesn't produce as much smoke as a fog machine, but perfect for smaller jobs.

Worked great but you need to watch water level
I have used this in a small tabletop cauldron and in other small decorations. The cord is long, which is nice. It is easy to install and has a tight fitting 'plug' to keep water from leaking. While it makes a thick mat of mist inside the caulron, it does not spill out over the edge like a previous mist maker did. The color changing lighting is bright and eerie.

I have several large plastic Whitche's Cauldrons. I use A LOT of the colored spider webs at my salon during Halloween, and when they loose their "stretch" I drape them over the sides of the Cauldrons. I stack several old vhs tapes in the middle and place the Mister in a shallow bowl of water on top. I get TONS of comments/compliments on the effect from adults, and I get myriad OOHS and AAHS from the Trick-or-Treaters!These things are AWESOME!
Simple, easy and effective.

I wish it came in a larger, more mist-producing size. We ended up using 2 mist makers in one "cauldron" to get a better effect.
Do not use distilled water (it will not work correctly)
I followed the directions and it does not work with distilled water. After doing an exchange and it still didnt work I searched the reviews and discovered that the directions are faulty. You must have some salt in the water for it to work correctly (Spirit needs to get their act together). I tested with tap and it seemed to work better. So hopefully I can use it next year since the party is over...

Really wish there was an option to keep this on one color AND change more slowly. It works great, but the quickness of change is distracting.

Gives off a cool looking spooky mist that is chemical free. It's just water vapour!

I bought one of these for fun. I know how they work so I knew what to expect. For those who don't know, distilled water is a terrible conductor of electricity, that is why some suggest salt which makes it an electrolyte and therefore more conductive. Most tap water is full of mineral salts on its own. There are actually 2 contacts that need some interaction. One is the disk and the other is the small metal contact in the top plastic protrusion. It actually pinpoint boils the water. If anyone other than me has experimented with it's much larger cousin which is the ultrasonic humidifier without the top on you will see the same effect. That disk does get hot, I found out with my finger tip. I did try this in my fish pond for fun. It had 5 inch diameter ring of mist. I think I will try this with fog juice.

The one I bought last year does NOT look at all like the one here that they show this year. Very different. Where the two cords attach to each other, yes, I have that and have no idea why that is there. Mine does NOT have a switch on the cord, so I could not figure why they kept saying things about the switch.:-( I'v read the reviews and the ones that say use salt- that does help a lot. I'm disappointed, though, that this year I'v spent days working w/ it for a good mist effect.
Buy, but beware!

I bought this mister, and added the water, and nothing happened. Then I tried it with different water levels, also nothing. I'm so glad I read these reviews, as I tried the kosher salt and BAM! It worked!!!! Nifty little thing, but beware if you buy and have your salt on hand. :)
Works well just a little small
By Shelly Momma

Using this in a cauldron in my witches room. It's a bit small so I'll have to prop it up on another smaller bowl inside the cauldron. Works great other than that, no hassle to set up and the light changing is cute

I used this product for my house and i am disappointed. I traded this 5 times! Don't buy. It says it works with distilled water and it worked for the first day than it stopped working and only the lights worked. It works with tap water.

Salt did the trick
I brought this home and could not get it to produce mist no matter what the water level. I read someone's review saying they added salt to the water and tried it and now it works beautifully. It does spit water out so be prepared for that. A plastic piece in the box that looks like junk is actually a deflector so it doesn't splash water out so DON'T THROW IT AWAY!

Sent me a broken previously used product
from BC Canada
About Me High-end Shopper
I've bought these mist makers before and know what they look like when new, and what I recieved is not new. The casing is scratched and dented and the unit does not make any mist. It looks like someone just repackaged a returned broken item and sent it to me. I do not recommend ordering anything from Spirit Halloween online, go to a store and verify that what you are buying is new.

Gets the job done
from Greensboro, NC
You have to find the perfect sized bowl for this cause it doesn't give off a whole lot of fog, but if you get it in the right container with the fog deflector in the right spot, it's efficient. I'm very pleased since it only takes water and its affordable. We put this under a clear punch bowl that sits on a caldron and the fog goes through the holes perfectly. And lights are a nice touch too.

I bought this device in 2011 and have used it for two years now without any issues. I have a huge cauldron that I use each year as part of my driveway décor, and all I had to do was get a smaller bowl to sit inside the cauldron, sit the bowl on a brick so it was high enough to allow the fog to spill over the edge, fill the bowl with the right amount of water, and enjoy. It creates a great effect to go with my other zombie/witch themed items and costumes. If the water runs low, yes it can splash out and make a slight bit of a mess, but careful tending and just paying attention to it keeps this to a minimum. I'll be using it again this year as well, and am looking forward to many more years of use out of it.

Better than I expected.

Works better than I expected. Fog pours over the side of the bowl and the colors are perfect. I will put this in my Witch's cauldron next year with my glass bowl and I believe it will work great.

works as described, highly recommended!
By Mr. T
from Los Angeles, CA
For the price, this little device is amazing and works every time. As long as you're not an idiot, it will do exactly what it needs to do and provide fun for years to come. I bought mine last holiday, and just pulled it out again to use this year. No problems at all. The device has to rest in a shallow bowl/cauldron of water, with about a 1/2" to 3/4" (inch) amount of water over the top of the LEDs. Any more or less and it won't work correctly...if at all. If you're still having trouble with the fog not billowing over the sides of the bowl/cauldron...put something in the bowl for the device to sit on (like a lil step) and it should work much better (as long as there's enough water over the top). It might take a little trial and error, but it will work just fine as long as the water level is right. Remember: this thing is fairly cheap, uses plain h20, and will definitely look cool on a table or front porch. However, if you're looking for enough fog to fill a room and flow around...spend a few extra dollars and buy a fogmachine that runs on juice. Enjoy!
