Comments about Spirit Halloween 5 Ft Swamp Hag Animatronics - Decorations:
I am using the Swamp Witch in my very large Halloween display. She looks great. I'm very pleased with her movement & he sound track. The only thing about this animatronic that is a little scary is the amount of small things that can throw her off track. When we set her up we used extreme care do to the reviews that we had read. I believe without the reviews & not knowing what to watch out for we would have 2 or 3 problems that could damaged her so she couldn't be used. We were careful so far everything is ok. I love the product & would recommend her to anyone. Just be cautious in handling her & setting her up.

eyes glowed for one cycle than went out, I had to adjust the spin wheel multiple times to make sure she extended fully, and her head and arms do not lift and open fully to give the full effect.

Satisfied but disappointed
I purchased this item yo help further my decorating theme. The item arrived promptly and box was in good condition upon assembling the item I discovered that the mechanism which lifted the head was missing and that one of the lights that illuminated the eyes was not operating. I contacted customer service about these issues and was told that the item was discontinued and that they had no more in stock, I was then offered to return item for full refund or they could refund a percentage of the purchase price. Since I really wanted it for my theme I decided to retain the item and get a percentage of my money back. So can't say I'm not satisfied just wish the item would have been complete.

Defective design-don't even consider buying.
Arms didn't fit into torso brackets-tried to improvise with cable ties. When the unit elevated it was choppy and jerky. After about 10 cycles it quit totally. Returned it for refund which I still haven't received.

Unpacking the product, I was surprised to find the metal structure to be rusted and corroded. It took a lot of adjustments to make her arms move properly. We ended up shortening the spring on the head which seemed to help.

Love the Animatronic Decorations
The only downfall to this product is that the arms don't open the way they should. The arms need assistance in opening/spreading apart. Other than that it is a good product. It is everything that I expected, except the arm issue, and I can't wait to display it on Halloween!!! As a matter of fact, I just ordered the "Undead Granny". Very excited to see this one!!!!
Swamp Hag Mechanics
By Reaper Collector
About Me Midrange Shopper
If you are not mechanically inclined then these are going to be harder to work with. These are designed to stop moving when the upper and lower limit switches are closed by a gear acutator on the back of the gear box. The newer versions have a plastic shield on the lift pulley and also should have an anti strip gear inside like the Rising Creeper Doll does. I have re-timed mine almost precise, but their is a bit of gear travel and string stretching with every use among other things. A better way to do it would be to bypass the gearbox limit switches and make them interact with the elevating poles instead . That way you know exactly where the right positions to stop should be regardless of string stretching. All Seasonal Visions rising props should have that upgraded just to be safe and to help prevent gear grinding. If your gears aren't stripped and it clicks at the top then you can try to add some slack at the bottom by untying the string and letting some lose . The string might be glued. I personally have never had any of my rising SVI Props strip. My advice is to run it without the costume a few times so you can see if it's set up and working right. It is important to make sure nothing is catching like wires, linkages, or the costume.

I loved this swamp hag. Put her all together and she worked great except the sensor never worked so she just ran all the time. Worked great for our halloween party for about 5 hours. Then she stopped going up and down. I was able to fix the white cord that wrapped around the gear and rewrap it. It worked again but for a very short time and that was it. Gear for movement up and down is poorly made and they need to redesign and this would be an awesome Halloween prop. Want to buy another so badly but know I would probable have the same problem after reading all the other reviews.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Love her but she doesn't seem to "sense" and click on much
from Sugar Hill, GA
Man, I love this lady! She shorts out a good bit and doesn't seem to recognize the motion but when she talks, I love her story!
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
I would recommend Swamp Hag to anyone!
I love the fact that she can come back apart after you set her up! Swamp Hag has a creepy appearance and is fairly well made.

Swamp Hag won't stand up
from Waterville, Minnesota
Problem with the Swamp Hag is the cheap method of rising and up and down. Our first Swamp Hag that we bought in 2015 worked fine Halloween night for hours, then suddenly it stopped rising. It stared to make loud clicking noises, and the polley cable was just hanging and not working. I really love the look of her and her movements, but the string that is the pulley system got all unstrung from the plastic gears that stripped. We tried to fix her after Halloween was over, but to no avail. I wrote an email to Morris company that manufactures her, and they sent me a complete replacement stand with all body electronics box with gear pulley system. When we put our Swamp Hag head and clothing on it worked okay, except the infrared sensor did not work. After she rose up and down fine we put her out side for 2016 Halloween season, but she broke down with the same rising problem right away. This new rising pulley system had a plastic see through cover on it to protect the area, but the first Hag did not. But the same problem happened with her not rising again the clicking noise and string come off. So now what? All she does is sit still in lowered position and talks. Very disappointed in this prop and how cheap the rising mechanics are on this prop. We would like to get her to rise again since we really still love her.
Love all my aninatronics.

I have tons of the Spirit Halloween Animatronics. The Swamp Hag is one of my favorites.
This Hag is a Nag that Isn't Worth the Money
So disappointed in this element. This was the second Swamp Hag that I had purchased in two seasons, and both broke down within 30-minutes of activation. The electronics moving the mouth and controlling the voice work fine, but the mechanism for making the Hag rise and stand is cheap and a poor design. It looks great, but avoid this witchy woman.

Everything I expected it was. It speaks for a long time...longer than I thought it was going to. Only thing i had an issue with is the foot pad....has never worked and that is a little disappointing.
About Me High-end Shopper
was very excited when she arrived, put her together turned her on and as she proceeded to rise she fell down never to move again...found that the double cog that turns the motor was broken and finding a replacement is a joke...I have spent a week trying to find the double cog that will bring my swamp hag back to life with no luck.it's sad to think I spent money on an item that will never work...I live in Australia so spending the money to return her is just not worth it...how does the company that made her get away with making a product that is not repairable and get away with it, I would love to know
Poor quality in the gears. Broke the first time i used it.
from Phillips ranch CA
Used in doors one year work for about two hrs. The gears broke and now the witch Does not stand up. I am looking to purchase new gears. Please advise on where I can purchase new gears. Will not recommend unless gears are heavy duty.
Looks and sounds good
This prop looks and sounds good but plastic gear broke immediately in effort to raise her.
Should have read the reviews
Guess I should have read reviews... Fell in love with this online shopping. Purchased in August more than 90days in advance of Trick or Treat, just one of five major animatronics we purchased in 2015 along with two we designed and built on our own. Expanded cemetery/morgue and designed an entire exit through voodoo swamp section around her and her lyrics complete with water feature (frogs are amazingly hard props to find around Halloween) and voodoo witch hut. Even designed our costumes around the cemetery voodoo swamp theme. Very disappointed when malfunction started during set up. Arms caught and would keep the unit from fully extending. Rigged with a rubber band and went on to swamp set up. When trick or treat started she initially needed physical coaxing to work and then she gave up the ghost all together. We put her on a platform so she could at least be viewed then finally unplugged her to stop the pitiful clicking while she tried to coax wary trick or treaters into her lair. So sad. **Here it is, almost August again and I'm pulling her out of the basement to try to revive her for a more croak filled All Hallows Eve 2016. Wish me luck. I'm going to try the bungee suggested by MagicRon
Guest Services Response:Thank you very much for leaving us a review. Make sure the pole connected directly to the head is on TOP of the cross bar- if this pole gets caught under the cross bar it, the prop will not rise properly. Make sure the actuating rods are lubricated and fully attached. These are the poles that control the arm movement. If you have any further questions, our Animatronic Tech team will gladly assist you. I was very excited to make this element a key part of my Halloween attraction, but within minutes of turning it on it malfunctioned. First, the spring mechanism had to be reset several times in order to make the shoulders and arms work. Then minutes laters the motor stopped lifting the torso and head to its full height. The Hag just sat there repeating the recorded message with no motion at all. I eventually unplugged it and left it as a static exhibit throughout my event. I wrote to Spirit but never received a response. The quality of this piece is not what I would have expected from Spirit having bought other animatronic characters from them for many years.
Guest Services Response:Thank you for reaching out to us about your Swamp Hag. From what you described this is a rare occurrence. Please contact our Tech Support team and Dr. Zombie and we will see what we can do for you about getting this working.
Swamp Hag holds up
By King of Halloween 2015
from Houston, TX
I used this Hag at my front door with the step pad for Trick or Treating, and then I used it indoors for the party afterward.I like the design of this animatronic most of all, as it is a very creepy looking witch. The dialogue is so-so, but because I got it at a good price I thought it was worth it. I like the adjustable volume and the fact that you can choose how this witch is activated. Some people state that the arms do not work as they should, so I would report that in general mine worked. There were a few occasions that the arms did not open, but I found if you manually pushed them (without using excessive force) they would open and close correctly afterward. The rising feature always worked well, but when it would go back down in position it would rock a bit, so I imagine it won't last more than two more Halloweens. It is a bit noisy when operating, but because I had creepy music on and her volume turned up all the way you couldn't hear the gears moving.

Swamp Hag and Other rise and fall animatronics
from Montgomery, AL
About Me Adventurous, Trendy
This is a great looking Halloween animatronic. Unfortunately you wont get much use of it. The design to put plastic gears in with the motor to make it rise and fall is a mistake. With everything on, the weight is to much for the plastic gears to handle and they will strip. Mine didn't last through last year. The gears stripped Halloween night and no longer works to create the rise. I understand this year there are others that use the same design. Unless they change the design, be prepared to rig it to work in the rise position only.
