Great scare piece for the money!

I remember seeing this in display last year. Every single time I would step on the footpad, he would make me jump on every pop up! "He gets me every time!" I would always say. Half a week ago, we went to the store and they had about 2 or 3 left from last year. I bought him with a 20% off coupon and he worked great until the head started facing up and down. I thought he was breaking, but we removed that part and we discovered that the head was not stuck on good enough. So we picked the dry glue off and used a hot glue gun. And it stuck on even better. Now he works great! The only trouble we had was the zombie's tombstone, because when we attached the top half to the bottom half, it mad two or three little holes on the outside. But it didn't really matter, because not all tombstones are perfect. Last night before I went to the bathroom, I placed the Step Pad where my sister always walked in. When I was in the bathroom, I heard her coming through the back door. Just as she got in, she stepped on the pad and IT SCARED HER HALF TO DEATH!! She screamed loud and long, it scared the pants off of her! LOL!! Overall I am very happy with this prop. P.S. The reason why we started to call it Poo-Up Zombie was because on one of the adapters that was plugged to one of my Jumping Spiders had a little misprint. Instead of Pop-Up Zombie, it said Poo-Up Zombie. We thought is was really funny. So we also decided to call the tombstone a poopstone. We always like to be silly and have fun!!

I was skeptical after reading the reviews. But this guy worked great. The spring mechanism is loud, but no one noticed as I had it in the back of my cemetary. We got quite a few scares and oohs and ahhs from it. I recommed using a foot pad.

Was the hit of my haunted cemetery, not for the sound it makes but for the pop up action. sound was too low to hear. had it set up with a foot pad hidden between wood. it got a good work out and it held up.

This is an amazing decoration that will make anyone, of any age JUMP and that is a fact. Its because you don't see it coming (the timing). The Reaper who jumps is so creepy. As will ALL Halloween Spirit items, there is no guess work. You just take them out of the box, follow maybe 3 instructions and away you go. Be sure to order the optional Electric adapter if you don't want to use batteries. We use this outside so batteries for us are a better option.

This is great to put on my wooden porch so when the kids climb the stairs it'll pop up! I love how it pop ups so fast and the detail. I'm afraid it's going to break because of the quality.
from Norfolk, VA
This unit is sound activated. Footsteps and normal conversation levels do not activate the switch. Loud sounds are required. When it pops, its quick. It is a good thing the item comes with the "step on foot pad" activation. Would have been nice to know about the foot switch activation when I purchased the unit. Oh, yeah, don't bother with the head stone. Very cheap.

Great prop when it works
from Quad Cities, IL
Great prop when it works. Had trouble getting it to work properly. Either delayed "pop" or when it did "pop" it wouldn't go all they way back down.

Bought this 2013. Works great with the sound activation, the activation pad option barely worked if at all...Wish they would fix that issye

Broke part way through the night

About Me Halloweenhorror Freak
Was excited to get this prop. Was the last one in the store, other than the display piece. Put it together once I got home and it worked great. Put it out for Halloween day - this is the only time it was put out and operated - after about 10-20 popups, it stopped working. Being this was one of the showpieces at the front to scare the kids as walking up, I was highly irritated that it broke. I called the store the next day - being Nov 1st, they had nothing left and did not want to return/refund. Was told to call/email Spirit. I did so, and did not receive a return call/email. Considering we spend hundreds of dollars each Halloween season through this company, I'm really angry that I'm stuck with a broken prop and poor customer service. The quality of props has been declining yearly.
Quite a creative jolt!

If positioned well, this prop can give your unsuspecting trick-or-treaters a good shock. It is quite scary without over-the-top gore. I recently converted it into a mummy by super-gluing bandage strips around its head; and I replaced the tombstone with an Egyptian tomb I made by painting on a sheet of wood cut out with the same dimensions. You can be creative with it too!

Did have a problem fitting the base together, had to shave some of the white plastic for it to fit. But that is my only peeve. The pop up is the great feature as it surly gets your attention right away. Was gift. Would have kept for myself but wanted to pass on the stepson.
DOA, but looked like it could be good

About Me Adventurous, Over The Top
Got this to add to the outdoor graveyard animatronics/decor. Unfortunately, with batteries or power adapter, no go. Just wouldn't move. The gravestone is completely detached with the usual useless plastic pegs that in a very light breeze - 5 mph - would blow the stone right over. All my stones are fitted with plywood and a shaped plywood stakes, glued and screwed to the backs. It looked like it would be terrific, and I had seen it work before. It pops up FAST and scares the heck out of you! Didn't have a chance to see it in action, though. Returned. Might try it out again next year.

Had to return 2 defective units
By Haunter in vegas
from Las Vegas, NV
Like many other reviewers, I was disappointed in the quality issue they seem to have with this one. This is my third animatronic from Spirit and I haven't had any significant issues with the other 2 so I'm hoping this is just a poor design.I'm giving it a 1 star rating because I ultimately returned 2 defective ones, both had very similar issues with the popup mechanism. The first one quit working after probably about 10 activations. It would only go about 1/3 the way back down and then make a very load grinding sounds that led me to think that the gears were slipping. I returned it and got a new one.The new one also only lasted about 10 activations. That one moved back down only about an inch or two and then just stopped. At that point it was clear to me that this model has quality issues and so I got a different model.I'm betting part of the issue is that the spring mechanism that powers the popup motion is very strong, almost too strong. It snaps up extremely fast which is good for scares but I suspect may be damaging itself along the way. Also, you need to make sure you are not standing above it when it triggers - it could probably actually hurt someone. It also makes a very loud bang at the top as it reaches the top of the shaft which isn't very desirable. A counter-spring at the top would have been good to soften that final stopping point.Other more minor things I didn't like about it is the lack of volume control (granted that's true on all Spirit animatronics that I've seen but it is annoyingly loud). This one also only gives you the choice of stomp pad or sound activation. I found the sound activation unreliable - having to clap very loud in order to trigger it. I wish it had timer and motion activation options as well. I wish all of their animatronics supported all activation triggers.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Awesome prop for our yard
from East Brunswick, NJ
About Me Heavy Duty Halloweeners
We have our whole front yard decorated, torches, fog machines, green lighting, and a mix of home built and store bought props. We are very selective on new additions and the pop up zombie made the grade. We set him up outside in our graveyard and like all our props he was set on a timer to go off every three minutes. We have props scattered about all set for about three minutes and this keeps the action going when people stop to admire the decorations. Anyway, we ran him this way for 2 1/2 weeks for 3 to 4 hours each night with no issues. That my friends is some heavy duty usage. We stake all our props into the ground either directly or mounted to wood platforms and they withstand just about anything. Great Halloween this year.
Had 2 Arrive Defective
from Cypress TX
I ordered this before Halloween and did not work. No action at all, totally dead. Returned for replacement 2nd one also did not work at all. Tried one more time and 3rd one did work. Has a nice fast acting motion and pretty scary. Had to weigh down base with some bricks to keep standing up in grass, not very stable at all. Not very sensitive to sound activation, used foot pad instead which worked well. Not much shape to the "body" portion, basically just a head with some fabric wrapped around neck area, doesn't have anything around shoulders. Looks OK when it is dark though. Overall OK, not sure I would recommend since 2 arrived defective for me.

Neat Idea, but.......
By Big D
I like the look and the sound of the product and the "jumping" appearance was fine, but the head snapped off the body after about 5 times activated. I have had to glue the head back on and for now it seems to be holding, but seemed a little poor on the quality.
