Fun with Food
Bobbing for apples is a fun, albeit often messy, Halloween tradition. Make it more difficult by removing the stems of the apples or switch it up entirely & tell your party to bob for “eyeballs” by substituting grapes for apples.
Want to bag bobbing apples because your costume makeup is in jeopardy? Try tying the apples by strings & suspending them from the ceiling at face height. Party guests will still be challenged to take a bite out of the apple without using their hands!
Use Halloween-themed cookie cutters to cut to pastries, deli meats, jello, breads, cheeses, or anything else you might be serving.
Scratch the table clothes & opt for the cotton webs! Give your guests a tasty treat by “cob webbing” cotton candy throughout the house. What a tasty & decorative treat!
Put grapes in the ice cube trays then pour in colored watered to give the appearance of a bloody eyeball. Or use fake insects – but make sure you fill ½ way with water, freeze, add the insect, fill with water, & re-freeze so the insects are completely suspended in the cube!
Use plastic light sticks as swizzle sticks giving your mocktail a ghostly glow.
Fog Effects
Give your party a creepy atmosphere by using dry ice to create billows of foggy mist. Since the fog is heavier than air, it will sink. So try hiding a pan full of dry ice behind a decorative piece near the refreshments. By pouring hot water over the dry ice, you will see the fog creepy up & over the table. Add hot water as needed but NEVER touch the dry ice. Also, make sure the area is well-ventilated as it gives off carbon dioxide fumes.
Moster Feet
With a magic marker, draw a footprint in a big sponge. Cut out the footprint. Pour washable paint in a shallow aluminum pan. Press the sponge in the paint and sponge footsteps up your sidewalk to your front door for trick-or-treaters to follow, or around the side of your dark, spooky house. Flip the sponge upside down to stamp the other foot.
Scary Strings
Cut some string into 4 foot lengths and tape them to the ceiling. You should have a very dim room for this. Just before the victim arrives you can hold a bowl of water up to the string and get it wet. When people walk in the wet, slimy string will brush across their foreheads and scare them!
